I would like to welcome you and your child to fifth grade. I know that this school year will bring new and exciting challenges for both you and your student. With your cooperation and involvement, the 2006-2007 school year is sure to be a success.
In order for your child to succeed in his or her educational career, I want to make your child s classroom a pleasant one, filled with rich experiences, challenging projects, lots of achievements, and lasting friendships. Your child deserves the most positive educational climate, and I know that together we will make a difference in this process. I am available for conferences before school from 8:00 - 8:40 or after school from 3:30 - 4:00. If you would like to set up a conference time, please call the school in advance to prevent any conflicts. On Wednesday (9/16) the students will have a math test covering material from Unit 1. In preparation for the test , the students should be able to:
-create rectangular arrays for both prime and composite numbers -be able to find all the factors of whole numbers and identify them as being prime or composite -know place value from hundredths to hundred-thousands and be able to write numbers in word form -know how to square and unsquare a number and write numbers in exponential notation -find the prime factorization of a number -use their divisibility rules to determine if a number is divisible by another To prepare for the test, students should: review study links from unit 1, review journal pages completed in class, and review class notes in their math binders |
